Product DescriptionIn 1997 Ford scrapped the Twin Traction Beam front axle in favor of torsion bars with upper and lower control arms, similar to what General Motors uses on their 1988 and newer full-size trucks. When comparing Ford's old and new designs, the primary benefits of this setup are a somewhat improved ride, a more stable and predictable steering "feel", and less camber change when towing or hauling loads. When you add it up, the bottom line is improved drivability.Superlift's method of lifting the new F-150 keeps the truck's all-around good drivability traits intact. New front and rear cross member assemblies drop the lower control arms 4.5". The factory upper control arms are located on top of the frame rails so relocating them downward is not practical. Instead, replacement CNC machined, case nodular iron knuckle assemblies (not ball joint spacers) span the increased distance between upper and lower control arms. A relocating tie rod boss incorporated into the knuckle assemblies maintains proper steering linkage geometry. The two cross members, made from .25" wall thickness square tubing and .25" thick steel plate, span the full width of the frame to enhance overall system strength and rigidity. The front axle assembly is also lowered 4.5" to maintain factory CV axle angles. Front wheel travel is increased by 20% at the wheel. Optional tubular kicker braces reinforce the rear cross member. An optional two-piece skid plate, available in either mild steel or brushed stainless steel, protects the steering linkage and front differential housing. The stainless plate features our new "flame" logo. Longer DOT approved front brake hoses are included, along with front / rear Superlift Superide shocks. Rear lift is accomplished by using either a block kit, add-a-leafs with shorter blocks, or replacement Superide leaf springs. Using the add-a-leaf / block combination will firm up the ride slightly, and help control rear axle "wrap-up". If using blocks alone (without add-a-leafs), we recommend installing our Super-trac traction bars to combat axle wrap-up. As with all of Superlift's systems, the lift is covered by our Limited Lifetime Warranty. This kit includes:
